The Maldives… Just hearing this name conjures up all sorts of idyllic images: white sands, turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, colourful fish and luxury resorts. But the archipelago is seriously threatened by rising water levels.

There is no doubt about it: the digital revolution is well underway in the transport industry! Naval Group, a French company specialised in naval defence and renewable maritime energy, has produced a 300kg hollow propeller blade in stainless steel using 3D printing!

After ceding ground to jet engines, propeller-driven systems, which are more energy efficient and eco-responsible, are making a notable comeback in the world of aviation. Propellers are even playing a central role in research projects focused on future flying machines.

In 2018, ATR delivered its 1500th aircraft to the airline Japan Air Commuter (operating services in support of Japan Airlines), which flies to destinations within Japan. A perfect opportunity, as spring arrives, to take a trip to the Land of the Rising Sun and celebrate – alongside the Japanese – the exquisite beauty of cherry blossoms, or Sakura, a symbol of the rebirth of Nature.
